Wow! We had the little Coconut Chloe for over two weeks now. We feel like we're really starting to get the hang of things. However, when we say that Chloe will usually throw us a curveball and shake things up a bit. For instance, we thought we had the night time routine down, but no, Chloe decided she wanted to be awake from 8pm until 4am. That was a rough night.
I think the toughest thing has been the feeding. She's constantly hungry, which is a good thing - I guess. She now weighs 7lb 1.5oz and is 19.5 inches long. That's up from her birth stats of 6lb 12oz and 18.5 inches long. I feel bad for Robin. She's the one with the milk supply. It's really time consuming to breast feed. I think Robin has about a half hour of free time between feedings. However, the benefits from breast feeding is worth the sacrifice, plus we'd do anything for little Chloe.
I guess we just didn't realize how much work was involved with raising a newborn. We knew it was going to be tough, but we didn't realize how time consuming it was going to be. It makes it difficult to get anything else non-baby related done. I'm doing my best to help Robin out.
I help out by keeping the house clean, cooking, and bottle feeding Chloe (with pumped breast milk) when I can. I now have a new found respect for single mothers after experiencing what it takes to raise a newborn. It would be really tough to raise her on my own.
For now we're looking forward to the days when we'll be rewarded with a smile, facial/vocal recognition, or some just plain cuteness from Chloe. That's when we'll feel better about our 3hr feeding sessions or repetitive diaper changing.
It's gets easier- right?
;)
